General Mobile Q&A's

Why do my batteries drain so quickly?

Battery life durations are specified on our products and are tested in our labs under multiple different conditions. The talk and standby times are a realistic average maximum dependent on customer usage variables. Some variables that may affect battery life are:
1. Backlight settings set to always on, or a longer duration
2. Ring tone settings set to higher volume settings
3. Vibrate settings turned on
4. Making and/or receiving calls in, or simply standing by in an analog service area
5. If you tend to be in a "weak" coverage area where your signal strength meter shows only 1 to 2 bars.

What is the PIN check feature?

The PIN, or Personal Identification Number, is a unique password assigned to your SIM card when your service is purchased through your provider. When the PIN check feature is enabled, you must enter your PIN each time you switch the phone on. Consequently, any person who does not have your PIN cannot use your phone without your approval.

Note: Before disabling the PIN Check feature, you must enter your PIN. The following options are available:
* Disable: the phone connects directly to the network when you switch it on.
* Enable: you must enter the PIN each time the phone is switched on.

What is an FDN (Fixed Dial Number)?

The FDN mode, if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers.

The caller ID is showing only the number and not the name, how do I fix this?

In order for the Caller ID to display the name of a specific contact instead of the number, the telephone number for the contact must be entered in the appropriate ten-digit dialing format for your area (Area Code + Number: 555-456-7890). Do not include the "1" for long distance; it is not necessary on a cellular phone.

The Caller ID function works in conjunction with the phone book. The Caller ID reads the phone numbers in 10 digit format only, (XXX-XXX-XXXX). If there is a "1" in front of the area code (1-XXX-XXX-XXXX), the Caller ID will not function properly. Also, if there is no area code at all (XXX-XXXX), it will also not work. If there is a 1 in front of the area code, simply remove it as it is not necessary for long distance with your wireless carrier.

Please Note: If the cellular provider "cloned" the phonebook utilizing a special program from one phone over to another, this can cause the Caller ID to fail.

Will I damage the battery if I leave it plugged in to charge overnight?

The battery should not overcharge if left plugged in. Once the battery is fully charged, the charging will cease and will only recharge periodically for a short burst. Basically the short charges act as a 'service charge' to maintain full capacity when you unplug and are ready to go.

What is the GPRS?

The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new nonvoice value added service that allows information to be sent and received across a mobile telephone network. It supplements today's Circuit Switched Data and Short Message Service. GPRS is NOT related to GPS (the Global Positioning System), a similar acronym that is often used in mobile contexts.

What is dual band and how can I use it?

Dual band refers to a mobile phone that is capable of operating on two different frequency bands such as GSM 900 and GSM 1800. If a phone is dual band capable, it automatically uses the network with the strongest signal, and switches networks even during a call within the same operator's network. Therefore, you get a more reliable connection, fewer dropped calls and fewer "network busy" messages.

What is my security code?

The security code is a code that prevents your mobile phone from unauthorized use. The security code 12345 is usually supplied with the phone. You must change the security code before you start using your phone. Please refer to your user manual for full details on how to change your security code. Keep the new code secret. If you key in an incorrect security code five times in succession, the phone will not accept the correct code for the next five minutes.

Can I use my mobile phone while it is charging?

Yes. You can make and receive calls, and access all menu features even while your phone is being charged.

What are satellite phones all about? Do you sell them?

Satellite Phones are handsets which can provide communication in uncovered areas by GSM or fixed lines. Yes, satellite phones are available in our all outlets.

How big can a MMS message be?

The standard does not specify a maximum size for an MMS. This is done to ensure future interoperability and to avoid limitations similar to the 160-character limit with SMS. The message size also depends on operators, who may set a standardized message size for billing purposes.
